Last year, we decided that our first HOOT! On Record project would benefit immigrants in crisis. With coronavirus spreading through detention centers, their crisis, already dire, is now grave. If much of the world has forgotten these people while stocking up on sanitizer, we’d like them to know that we - and many more Americans - have not. 

Torch Songs - For Refugees, Detainees & Immigrants Under Siege is a collection of songs about the difficulty of pilgrimage, the dream of a promised land, and the drama of remaking lives. At a time when the nation has reneged on its promise to immigrants, we wanted to recall America’s beckoning, and honor the plight of separated families, deported laborers, and threatened Dreamers who, seeking deliverance, met with abuse.

Our lead single is a version of “This Land is Your Land” that has resonated with audiences ever since the HOOT! Ballad Project gig in 2019 when singer Joe Christiano put finger to the wind, and mused, “Why don’t we try this in a minor key”?
